The fixed up Horse Motivator

Fixed a Horse Motivator – Riding Crop

Ever since Jay was a kid he was making and fixing things. He was always salvaging things before they went to the rubbish (eg. bottles and cardboard) to make things with. Plus taking ownership of scrap timber he’d find in his Dad’s shed, other off-cut materials, rags from the ‘rag bag’ and material off-cuts in his Mum’s sewing room, etc. Family members would also encourage him and give him materials. He had a ball making things cheaply… often at no cost other than glue, tape, etc!

He just REALLY enjoyed making things!

Jay is now 43 years old.
Some of the things he has made in recent years are on his freelance blog site at www.jaydaniellsweb.com.au.

Over the last 8 years he’s also spent 1,000’s of hours watching tutorials on YouTube and applying what he has learned. It’s partly how he figured out how to do every part (aside from the engine work) of this boat restoration project – short video below:

Recently Jay fixed a Horse Motivator for someone that loves horses. The end had broken off after several years of useage. Instead of going to the expense of buying a new one, and in keeping with the idea of ‘fix instead of replace’ (to save money, reduce landfill, reduce wastage, etc), Jay knew he could fix it cheaply; he had the glue, he had the string and he had the leather.  Jay cut out a new leather-end-tab-piece from some leather off-cut he had and ‘served’ it to the fiberglass…. plus added glue. There is no way the leather tab is now coming off anytime soon! The serving string will also help reinforce the fiberglass stick.
